Applying in Spain
Depending of where is located the real estate that you are going to purchase, you shall present (together with a copy of your passport, the passport, and 2 pictures of you) the NIE application in one of the following Foreigner's Office, all them placed in Head Police Stations (Comisaría de Policía):

Applying in UK
The Spanish Consulate General cannot issue NIE numbers. It only acts as a "POSTAL BOX" between the applicant and the competent authorities in Spain. If you wish to send your application through the Consulate you must go in person (no appointment needed) between 09:30 - 13:30 Monday to Friday as you will need to sign the form in their presence, with:

- Your valid passport.
- Two passport size photographs.
- The application form for NIE DULY COMPLETED BUT NOT SIGNED.
The Consulate do not provide the service of completing or translating the application form or any other documents relating to the NIE number.
This form cannot be obtained at the Consulate and must be obtained in the Comisaría de Policía in Spain (see list below) or by downloading form EX-14 (above) This form is in Spanish.
The address in point 4 of the form should be an address in Spain for the authorities to notify you of your NIE number.

(e) A STAMPED envelope with your address in the UK to send you a photocopy of your application form for an NIE number once it has been registered at this Consulate. Your NIE number will go to the address in Spain provided in point 4.

Your signature and the photocopy of your passport needs to be legalised by the Consulate and there will be a fee payable to "The General Spanish Consulate " of £22 per applicant (cash only).
